CAPTCHA Typing Job – Why I don’t recommend it?

CAPTCHA typing jobs are gaining ground these days especially here in the Philippines. The reason for this is that it doesn’t require any skill. The question is, ARE CAPTCHA TYPING JOBS LEGIT?

Personally, I have tried this job and so I decided to let people know the reality of doing this kind of “job”.

First, let us understand what CAPTCHA is.

What is CAPTCHA?

Have you tried accessing a website wherein before you are going to proceed, you have to type words or numbers or solve a mathematical problem?

Those are what we call CAPTCHA.

CAPTCHA is an acronym for “Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart.” As the name suggests, it is the text, image, or sound verification someone has to enter or solve and is used by certain websites to filter out bots from the human.

BOTS?

“An Internet bot, also known as a web robot, WWW robot, or simply bot, is a software application that runs automated tasks (scripts) over the Internet. Typically, bots perform tasks that are both simple and structurally repetitive, at a much higher rate than would be possible for a human alone.” (source: Wikipedia)

How Does CAPTCHA work?

Have you read or heard about the recent news about a bank that was hacked and lost millions of dollars?

Though it is not directly connected to CAPTCHA typing, this instance (hacking) could also be a result of CAPTCHA typing.

There are people who create bots and use these bots to hack a website and earn money from it. For example, using a bot, hackers can access someone’s contact information and sell it to a company which will then send spam emails or messages.

So, websites use CAPTCHA to filter out bots from humans, thus, helping them to keep their client’s data safe and at the same time prevent their websites from spam.

Why are some of the websites hacked even if they used CAPTCHA?

It’s because hackers came up with a workaround. To bypass CAPTCHA, the spammers use the services of CAPTCHA typing websites.

CAPTCHA typing websites would pay real humans to solve or type the CAPTCHAs. Thus, providing the spammers’ easy way to continue their illegal actions.

Now, is it illegal to do CAPTCHA typing jobs?

There is no explicit law that considers CAPTCHA typing to be illegal. However, by working with CAPTCHA typing websites, you are helping the hackers and spammers to continue their unethical, and in some cases illegal activities.

Can You Really Make Money With CAPTCHA Typing?

Despite countless reasons why you shouldn’t, I am sure there are people who do not mind making money the unethical way. So, can you really make decent money with CAPTCHA typing?

I mentioned a while back that I did try working as a CAPTCHA typist and the following are the reasons why my answer is a big NO!

1. Most CAPTCHA Typing Websites are SCAM

There was a website (the photo on the right)  that promises to pay their typist $0.10 for every CAPTCHA code. Well, the offer is really good so I signed up and tried it.

After earning $3 (their maximum daily earnings before), I was so excited to cash it out, BUT I found out that they have minimum cash out of $100. I was so disappointed but I didn’t stop. I continued doing it for three days, I think.

Fortunately, I read a blog about it saying that the website is totally a scam. And so, I stopped.

This is a review of captchaclub.com.

2. Too LOW Compensation

There are typing websites that really pay their workers. However, you won’t be able to earn DECENT money even if you spend 8-12 hours every day.

These paying CAPTCHA typing sites would pay you between $0.1 to $1 for every 1000 CAPTCHAs.

2Captcha’s offer

Now, let’s do the math. Say, you are a fast typist where you can type 200 CAPTCHAs per hour. You would spend 9 hours a day (because you are hardworking) typing CAPTCHAs on a website that pays $1 per 1000 CAPTCHAs (maximum).

So, in 9 hours you can type a maximum of 1800 CAPTCHAs (9×200). Since you are compensated $1 for 1000 CAPTCHAs then you can earn $1.8 for the 9 hours of work. Now, let’s say, you did this for 30 days, $1.8×30 would give you $54. Let’s convert that to pesos. $54×50 will have the product of PHP2,700.

The biggest question is, does PHP 2700 worth the time and effort you spent? Or would it pay your monthly bills?

(These two reasons are based on my experience. Try to search the web to find out more.)

Here are some of the websites I tried and never received compensation from them:

  • 1. Megatypers
  • 2. 2Captcha
  • 3. ProTypers
  • 4. PlanProMatrix

Final Words

CAPTCHA TYPING is neither ethically correct nor will it make you rich. The only people who benefit from this type of work are CAPTCHA Typing websites and spammers.
